Output Devices Flashcards
To Revise...and not fail :D
State the 4 types of Monitors
- Cathode Ray Tube Monitor (CRT)
- Thin Film Transistor Monitor (TFT)
- Liquid Crystal Display Monitor (LCD)
- Light Emitting Diode Monitor (LED)
What is a CRT (Cathode Ray Tube Monitor)
o Old, bulky, and heavy; becoming rare.
o Advantages: Better screen angle, cheaper, wide color range, usable with light pens.
o Disadvantages: Large, takes up space, generates heat, screen glare, prone to flickering, high power consumption.
What is a TFT (Thin Film Transistor Monitor)
o Flat screen, lightweight, uses pixels with red, blue, and green transistors.
o Advantages: Thin, uses less power, less glare, produces less heat.
o Disadvantages: Poor viewing angles, lower picture quality.
What is an LCD (Liquid Crystal Display Monitor)
Uses TFT technology with LCD diodes; backlighting with CCFL.
What is LED (Light Emitting Diode Monitor)
Uses LED matrix, more expensive but offers sharper images and better color.
What is a Multimedia Projector?
o Projects images onto large screens; commonly used for presentations.
o Advantages: Allows large audiences to view content.
o Disadvantages: Lower image quality, expensive setup.
State the 4 types of Printers
- Laser Printer
- 3D Printer
- Dot Matrix Printer
- 3D Printer
State the function of a Laser Printer
o High-quality, fast printing; uses toner and laser beams.
o Advantages: Fast, durable, quiet, cost-effective per page, high volume handling.
o Disadvantages: Environmentally unfriendly (ozone production), expensive, bulky.
State the function of an InkJet Printer
o Sprays ink; uses color cartridges (black, cyan, magenta, yellow).
o Advantages: Good quality, cheaper machines, compact, no ozone production.
o Disadvantages: Slow, high running costs, ink smudges, cartridges run out quickly.
State the Function of an Dot Matrix Printer?
o Impact printer with a matrix of pins; useful for noisy environments.
o Advantages: Suitable for harsh environments, can produce carbon copies, low running cost.
o Disadvantages: Noisy, slow, poor print quality, expensive initial cost, prints fade over time.
State the function of a 3D Printer?
o Builds solid objects layer by layer; uses resin, metal, paper, or ceramic.
o Uses: Prosthetics, precision surgery items, parts manufacturing, fashion, and arts.
What is a speaker?
o Outputs sound; can connect directly or be built into devices.
o Uses: General sound output, accessibility for visually impaired users.
What is an Actuator?
Devices that convert signals into motion or action.
What is a motor?
Uses: Rotating drums in washing machines, operating fans, opening doors, rotating drives in computers.
What is a buzzer?
Uses: Alerts in appliances like cookers, burglar alarms.
