C- collection. Shape of pinna collects sounds from all directions. It collects over a large area and concentrates it into a smaller area at the TM where it increase energy. Shapes and folds in pinna help to direct sound waves down the meatus.

-Localisation. Two ears tell us which side the sound is coming from horizontally - just one ear has the ability to pinpoint source and location of sound using input from ears as well as cognitive processes

• amplification. The resonance in the concha is 5500hz and the EAM has a natural resonance of 2500hz. This increase incoming signal by 15-20dB.

-Protection. The pinna protects using the tragus which blocks the opening of the canal and stops anything entering. Wax stops infections, hair filters out dust and the 2 bends stop being hints being shoved in aswell as the cough reflux.
