Noise Induced Hearing Loss Flashcards
1
Q
What are the effects of noise exposure
A
Depends on:
Intensity
Duration
Proximity
Period of absence
Impact/ banging noise above 140db will cause immediate hair cell damage
2
Q
3 types of noise exposure
A
- Noise induced hearing loss : high intensity, long duration. Can cause a temporary threshold shift (hair cells bend but come back) or permanent threshold shift (hair cells stay bent)
- Acoustic trauma: high intensity short exposure
- Blast injury: explosive noise. Can cause conductive loss due to perforation or ossicular dislocation. Or can cause cochlea damage which would be a mixed or total loss
