Epidemiology
The study of the distribution and determinants of health related states or events in specified population, and the application of his study to the control of health problems
Epidemiologist
Public health professionals who investigate patterns and causes of disease and injury in humans. They seek to reduce risk and occurrence of negative health outcomes through research, community education and health policy
Epidemic/Outbreak:
A disease occurrence among a population that is in excess of what is expected in a given time and place
Endemic
A disease or condition present among a population at all times
Pandemic
An epidemic that spreads across several countries or continents
Cluster
A group of cases in a specific time and place that might be more than expected
Morbidity
the condition of being ill, diseases or unhealthy
Mortality
the number of people that died from a disease
R-naught
a mathematical term that indicates how contagious and infectious disease is. If mens the reproduction rate of the illness
What is The World Health Organization (WHO)?
A specialized agency of the United Nations that is concerned with international public health. It was established in 1948, and is headquartered in Geneva, Switzerland
Public Health Agency of Canada:
An agency of the government of Canada that is responsible for public health, emergency preparedness and response, and infectious and chronic disease control and prevention
Its headquarters are located in two pillars, one is in Ottawa, the other is the National microbiology laboratory in Winnipeg Manitoba, the location of Canada only level 4 microbiology lab for human health
The Centre for Disease Control (CDC):
The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) is the national public health agency of the United States. It is a United States federal agency under the Department of Health and Human Services, and is headquartered in Atlanta, Georgia.
