Our Body Systems, Heart and Circulation Flashcards
What are the systems in our body?
Digestive Circulatory Nervous Muscular Respiratory Skeletal
What is the skeletal system?
It protects vital organs and keeps your body in shape and helps your body move
What is the respiratory system?
It takes in oxygen and releases carbon dioxide using our two lungs
What is the nervous system?
It consists of the brain, the spinal cord, and many other nerves that help us control our body.
What is the digestive system?
The digestive system helps us absorb nutrients and removes excess waste.
What is the circulatory system?
It pumps blood to the rest of the body parts and consists of the heart, the lung, blood vessels, and blood
What is the muscular system?
You have 600 muscles and helps you do almost everything
How is oxygen transported to the rest of the body parts?
Using blood
What are the arteries?
They are blood paths that take blood from the heart and to the organs. They are oxygen-rich and travels at high pressure. They have muscular walls to withstand the pressure.
What are veins?
Veins are blood paths that take blood from the organs to the heart. They have oxygen-poor blood and travels at low pressure. They have valves to prevent the backward flow of blood.
What are capillaries?
They are small vessels that allow the veins and the arteries to exchange substances.
What are the components in our blood?
Red blood cells
White blood cells
Platelets
Plasma
What do red blood cells do?
Red blood cells carry oxygen from the lungs to your heart and then your muscles.
They help you remove carbon dioxide from your body.
They contain hemoglobin.
What do white blood cells do?
Certain types of blood cells fight infections in your body.
They produce memory cells that fight the infection quickly.
What do platelets do?
They help the blood clot when you get a cut
What does plasma do?
They carry nutrients, vitamins, hormones, red blood cells, white blood cells, and platelets to where they are needed.
They also carry waste products like carbon dioxide.
Name all the four chambers in the heart?
Right atrium
Right ventricle
Left atrium
Left ventricle
Explain the right atrium and ventricle?
The right atrium receives oxygen-poor blood and then pumps it into the right ventricle. Then the right ventricle pumps the blood into the lungs.
Explain the left atrium and ventricle?
The left atrium receives oxygen-rich blood and then pumps it into the left ventricle
Where is your heart located?
In your chest, behind your chest
How can you measure your heartbeat?
Using your pulse
What term do you use to measure heartbeats?
BPM (Beats per minute)
What is the average adult BPM?
70 BPM
What is breathing?
Breathing is the process of both inhaling and exhaling
What is respiration?
It is when food is broken down into energy and is released
Give info about carbohydrates?
They give you energy and is classified as starch and sugar
Give info about protein?
They help your body grow and repair
Give info about dairy?
They help your teeth and your bones to be healthy
Give info about fruits and vegetables?
They keep our body healthy and gives you vitamins
Give info about fiber?
They keep our digestive system healthy and prevents constipation
Give info about fats and sugars?
They give you energy but not a lot of nutrition
