Bacterial causes: strep pneumonia, H. influenza

tinnitus
vertigo

hearing loss (causing speech delay)
Rx of otitis media
Grommets (ventilation) tube insertion
what is acute suppurative otitis media?
pus in middle ear
complication of acute suppurative otitis media?
perforation TM
Sx of acute suppurative otitis media? Rx?
otalgia
purulent otorrhea
increasing pain in ear
Rx: amoxicillin
what is chronic suppurative otitis media
chronic inflammation of the middle ear and mastoid cavity, discharge from middle ear through a perforated tympanic membrane for at least 6 weeks.
causes of chronic suppurative otitis media>
perforated TM, cholesteatoma may form
complication of otitis media with effusion
mastoiditis - dangerous as can get mastoid necrosis, or can lead to cerebral abscess
