Othro Flashcards
Lateral epicondylitis Pathology
Inflammation of :
Extensor Carpi Radialis Brevis
Extensor Carpi Unlaris
Extensor Digitorum
Lateral epicondylitis Sx
Pain in medial side of elbow
Pain grip
muscle weakness in forearm
Lateral epicondylitis Ax
palpation of lateral epicondyle of humerus
Mill test: full extension of elbow; pronation of forearm ; wrist flexion
Cozen test:
flex the elbow in 90; radial deviation of wrist; wrist extension against manual resistance
Tx of Lateral/medial epicondylitis/De Quervain’s syndrome
RICE Energy conservation technique Adaptive aids strength ROM Flexibility Occupation adaptation
Medial epicondylitis Pathology
Inflammation of : Flexor Carpi Radialis Flexor Carpi Unlaris Flexor Digitorum superficalis Pronator teres Palmaris longus
Medial epicondylitis Sx
Pain in medial side of elbow
may have numbness
Radial styloid tenosynovitis (De Quervain’s syndrome) Pathology
Inflammation of the lining of sheath surrounds abductors pollicis longus and extensor pollicis brevis
De Quervain’s syndrome Sx
shape pain over Radial styloid process
De Quervain’s syndrome Ax
Finkelstein’s test
flex the thumb and ulnar deviates
De Quervain’s syndrome Tx
Resting splint: To maintain neutral position
regime: put on at night; off at daytime
Working splint: Provide support
regime: put on at work; off when resting of both hand
Tx(splint) of Lateral/medial epicondylitis
Counter force band:
regime: Put on at work//take off at rest
to decrease the tensile tress by constrains muscle expansion when muscle contracted
to decrease the muscle activity and the force generated by muscle to promote healing of common extensor/flexor origin
Carpal tunnel syndrome pathology
compression of median nerve at carpal tunnel level by inflamed tendons
most common sit of compression at proximal edge of the flexor retinaculum
Carpal tunnel syndrome Sx
pain
numbness over thumb, index finger, middle finger
Tingling
nocturnal awakening
muscle wasting: thenar atrophy
(Activities involved wrist flexion)
Carpal tunnel syndrome Ax
tinel’s sign test: to detect irritated nerve
Phalen’s test: allow wrist fall freely into max
wrist flexion and maintain the position for 60s
Carpal tunnel syndrome splint
wrist splint: proper position that prevent wrist flex and promote slightly wrist extend(10)
working splint: relief the inflamed tendon/decrease the load of tendons at day time
night splint: allow the tendon have rest (night only)
