OTHER TYPE OR THYROID DISORDER Flashcards
1
Q
- Caused by Bacterial Infection notable from Gram Positive Staphylococcus aureus.
- Bacterial ID is done through FNAC for high yield
Individual with this condition have history of pre-existing nodular (COLD NODULES) goiter with neck pain
A
Suppurative Thyroiditis or
Microbial Inflammatory Thyroiditis
2
Q
- Commonly observed in hospitalized patient
- Characterized by reversible alteration of HPTA
- Markedly Decrease T3
A
Euthyroid Sick Syndrome / Nonthyroidal Illness Syndrome
3
Q
- Formerly known as Thyroid Hormone Resistance Syndrome
- Due to mutations in one of the T3 beta receptor leading to low cellular binding of T3
- Decreased tissue sensitivity to thyroid hormone caused by the germline mutation
- Mutant receptor has lower binding affinity
- TSH level remains unsuppressed despite elevated thyroid hormone
- Mutation of THRB Gene located in CHROMOSOME 3
A
Syndrome of Impaired Sensitivity to Thyroid Hormone
