Other tissue of ankle and foot Flashcards
Deltoid ligament
- Find the medial malleolus and the sustentaculum tali
- place your finger between these and strum horizontally. From here you can slide anteriorly or posteriorly 45 degrees to find the anterior and posterior aspects
Anterior Talofibular ligament
- anterior surface of lateral malleolus to the lateral side of the talus’ neck.
- find anterior aspect of lateral malleolus and slide forward about an inch is the entire length.
Posterior talofibular ligament
- posterior side of the lateral malleolus to the back.
- between the lateral malleolus and the achilles tendon (not attached to tendon tho)
Calcaneofibular ligament
-find distal end of lateral malleolus and the lateral aspect of the calcaneus. runs at a slight oblique angle
Spring ligament
aka plantar calcaneonavicular
- between the sustentaculum tali and navicular tubercle on the medial side of the ankle
- passively invert foot to soften surrounding tissue
Plantar Fascia (aponeurosis)
on the bottom of the foot. supports the arches
Posterior tibial artery
Tom Dick AN Harry.
inferior and posterior to the medial malleolus
Dorsalis pedis artery
between the fist and second metatarsals.
Sesamodi bones of first metatarsal
not normally palpable. on the bottom of the first metatarsal near the MTP joint.
Calcaneal bursea
(impalpable) is located between the attachment of the calcaneal (achilles) tendon and the overlying skin
Callus formation on plantar surface
hardened skin on the bottom of the foot. nothing specific?
Tibial nerve
Tom Dick AN Harry
-n=nerve. posterior to the medial malleolus.
Sural nerve
runs in the space between the lateral malleolus and the heel.
