Q

How is epithelial tissue adapted to its function?

A

Arrangement of epithelial cells depend on its function:
- Squamous epithelium is thin which makes it ideal for the exchange of materials such as in the alveoli.
- Ciliated epithelium has hair like structures attached to it, which makes it useful for moving particles out of our body.

Q

What is connective tissue composed of, and how does this aid its function?

A
  • Consists of a non living extracellular matrix containing proteins and polysaccharides; which separates the living cells within the tissue so it can hold tissues together

Q

State 3 types of cartilage and describe what they do.

A
  1. Hyaline - forms the embryonic skeleton and covers the ends of long bones
  2. Fibrous - found in discs between the vertebrae and in the knee joint
