Why are we referred to as the “children of Israel”
Abrahams son Isaac had a son named Jacob and his name was changed to Israel. God made a covenant with Abraham and his seed, so the children of Israel is NOT those who live in a certain land (ie: Israel) - but the descendants of Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob - Gods covenant people.
What are the 5 main covenants we make in the Temple
Obedience
Sacrifice
Law of the Gospel
Law of Chastity
Law of consecration
We need to talk about these covenants more. They are in the scriptures and should be talked about. They should be the focus of everything we do.
There have been 2 times I’ve been corrected from the pulpit. Explain those times:
1) When I told Home Teachers to just visit those in need, and the Stake Pres very kindly corrected me and powerfully taught me D&C 20:47 where we are commanded to visit the house of “each” member. We all need help, go through hard times, need spiritual nourishment, a friend, and for the Bishop to be aware of everyone.
2) When after being called to the Stake Presidency, I said I was confused or didn’t understand. The General Authority, Elder Nash, got up and kindly taught that Gods ways may not make sense to us, but His ways are not our ways, and we need to trust, have faith, and move forward - vs doubt, be confused, and not act.
