what are the characteristics of necrotising periodontal diseases?
- rapidly destructive and debilitating
- painful bleeding gums, ulceration and necrosis of interdental papilla - punched out appearance
- its the most severe inflammatory periodontal disorder caused by plaque bacteria
what are the 3 classifications of necrotising periodontal diseases?
1, necrotising gingivitis - when only gingival tissue affected
2, necrotising periodontitis - when the necrosis progresses into the PDL and alveolar bone, leading to attachment loss
3, necrotising stomatitis - when necrosis progresses to deeper tissues including lip, cheek, tongue
what are the risk factors for necrotising periodontal diseases in developed and developing counties?
Developed - stress, sleep deprivation, poor oral hygiene, smoking
Developing - malnourished children
