persistent depressive disorder (dysthymia) DSM-5 criteria
*depressed mood majority of the time for most day for 2 years
*PLUS any two of the following: poor Concentration, feeling Hopeless, Appetite changes, Sleep disturbances, low Energy, low Self esteem.
*must not be symptom-free for more than 2 months at a time
*may meet the criteria for MDE or MDD continuously
*must not have any manic or hypomanic episodes
cyclothymic disorder dsm-5
numerous periods of hypomanic symptoms and depressive symptoms (but not meeting the criteria for either episode) for at least 2 years with no more than 2 months being symptom-free at a time and no previous history of MDE,manic,or hypomanic episodes
premenstrual dysphoric disorder
in the final week before most menstrual cycles, the patient experiences at least 5:
(at least 1) affective lability, irritability/anger, depressed mood, anxiety/tension
(at least 1) difficulty concentrating, insomnia/hypersomnia, appetite changes, feeling overwhelmed/out of control, anhedonia, physical symptoms (breast tenderness, joint pains, weight gain)
must cause clinically significant impairment
symptoms are not only exacerbation of another disorder (MDD, panic, dysthymic)
symptoms arent due to substance or another medical condition
treatment of PMDD
SSRIs daily or only during luteal phase (day 14 of cycle) until menses begins
or oral contraceptives, GNRH agonists
disruptive mood dysregulation disorder
severe, recurrent verbal and/physical outbursts out of proportion to the situation occuring at least 3 times per week inconsistently with developmental level with mood between outbursts being irritable most of the day nearly every day and occuring in at least 2 settings lasting for at least 1 year with no more than 3 months being symptom-free.
no episodes meeting criteria for MDE, hypomania, mania
symptoms not due to substance, medication, medical condition and not better explained by another mental disorder
