Other Important Terms Flashcards
Wildcard Masks
Wildcard masks are used in some routing protocols, such as OSPF, as inverted subnet mask
ex: the subnet 255.255.255.0 inverts to a wildcard mask of 0.0.0.255
VLAN ID
when traffic passes through a VLAN, it must be identified to keep it separate from traffic in other VLANs. A unique ID identifies a VLAN in the network
RIP - Routing Information Protocol
the RIP hop count metric will choose the path with the least amount of hops
OSPF -Open Shortest Path First
The OSPF metric is based on cumulative bandwidth from source to destination
EIGRP
uses a metric based on minimum bandwidth, delay, load and reliability
Default Static Route
Typically used as a Gateway of Last Resort, which is used for any packet that does not have a destination route in the routing table
Dual Stack
Dual Stack means that a device runs both Ipv4 and ipv6 protocols simultaneously. Using two stacks allows both Ip version to coexist
Tunneling
Tunneling is used when Ipv6 addresses are sent over IPv4 networks or vice versa. IPv6 packets is encapsulated within a Ipv4 packet
Cisco Discovery Protocol (CDP)
is a layer 2 cisco proprietary protocol enabled by default on all cisco devices. Its purpose is similar to the purpose of NDP.
Cisco Discovery Protocol (CDP) 2
includes a unique feature that can detect a protocol-connection mismatch
Standard ACLs
Cisco recommends to place this type of ACL as close to the destination device as possible
Extended ACLs
Cisco recommends to place this type of ACL as close to the source as possible
