Why was Clare’s law started?

A

The murder of Clare Wood, who was strangled and set on fire by her ex-boyfriend, Appleton, who had previous convictions of domestic violence. Her father wanted to protect other vulnerable people. Clare had spoken to Manchester police before her murder.

A

The Domestic Abuse disclosure scheme (2014). It allowed people to ask police if their partner has previous convictions of domestic abuse. It receives 90 applications each week.

A

-Police are not obligated to provide any information. Only 43% of requests are granted.
-There are difference between police forces: some have higher acceptance rates than others.
-It does not include allegations.
