Other Flashcards
Rhinosporidium
7-15 um diameter, mature brightly eosinophilic endospores with a 1-2 um bilamellar cell wall and containing multiple 2 um round internal esosinophilic globules. Can also see large (100-450 um) sporangia filled with immature endospores.
Pneumocystis
5-10 um poorly staining to clear, spherical cysts containing 4-8 crescent shaped intracystic bodies each containing a single small, central, basophlic round to oval nucleus. (techinically classified as fungal)
Conchiformibius (Simonsiella)
25-75 um bilobed oval to footprint shaped structures composed of 50+ thin, deeply basophlic rods arranged in parallel across the short axis of the aggregate
Mycobacterium
short, negatively staining rods (1-3 um)
Filamentous rods (Actinomyces, Nocardia)
long, slender, variably staining strands with intermittent pink to purple areas causing a beaded appearance. Often found in matted aggregates.
Rhodococcus
variably shaped including cocci, cocobacilli, and short rod forms
