Q

What is the story behind Hangar 7?

A

Hangar 7 was a secret hangar used by the Allies that helped to overcome the air superiority held by the Japanese in WWII.

Men were sent across to New Guinea to scavenge parts from crashed planes. Eventually, with no instruction, and using only scavenged parts, a complete, working aircraft was assembled at eagle farm in Brisbane.

The re-assembled Zero was used in dogfights that allowed allied pilots to test it’s weaknesses and more easily identify enemy planes. It’s strengths were also studied to improve our own aircraft designs.

The parts were also examined to determine which factories they came from, so that these factories could be bombed.
