Other Flashcards
Find and install the warning triangle.
In our cars, the warning triangle is easily accessible in the luggage compartment. Take it out of the case and mount it.
Where should you place the warning triangle in case of emergency?
The warning triangle must be well visible to other motorists. In urban areas, you should consider the crossroads. Outside urban areas, place it about 150 meters from the vehicle in distress. Always wear the safety vest when you take the warning triangle out.
Locate the safety vest.
The safety vest must be accessible from the driver’s seat, e.g. in the door compartment, glove compartment or under the seat.
Check if the battery is tightened firmly.
Check that the battery is firmly attached and that the battery terminals are clean.
What might happen if the battery is not tightened firmly?
It can lead to leakage and short-circuit.
Check the seat belts.
Pull the whole seat belt out. Check for wear, tear and damages on all seat belts, including the locking retractors.
What is the risk of using a belt with a nonworking locking retractor?
In case of a sudden braking or collision event, the belt will not hold the occupant in position.
Make sure all objects in the car are secure.
Take a visual check. Find loose items and put them away where they won’t cause damage.
Make sure the windshield washer and wipers works
Turn on the windshield wipers both front and rear. Try all the steps. Remember to wipe the window first so that the wipers do not run on a dry window – then they will wear out faster.
Locate where to refill the windscreen washer fluid.
Open the hood, identify the container.
What do you check during a visual control of the wiper blades?
Check the blade for damage, deformation or if the rubber has hardened.
Adjust the heater to remove ice and dew from the windows.
Set the temperature as you like it when you drive. Remember not to drive until you have removed all the dew and frost on the routes. Mirrors and rear windows are often defrosted using heat. There should be a button for that.
Check that the sound- and light horn works.
To test the sound horn, press in the middle of the steering wheel. To check the light horn, pull the left lever towards you and release (same lever as the turn signals). Remember that reckless use of sound or lighting is prohibited.
Check that the airbag warning light works.
Turn on the ignition, the lamp should then switch on and automatically switch off after a few seconds.
Who should not be seated in front of an airbag?
Children and short people can be injured if the airbag deploys. Especially if the child sits back-to-front in their own chair. They will be squeezed into the passenger seat.
