South Australia Police aim to safely manage all police operations.
Explain the Justifications for using the Baton and OC spray
- Your protection in self defence
- Protection of other members of SAPOL, CC’s, PSO’s
- Protection of mebers of the public.
- Containing or preventing serious breach of the peace
- Protection from threatening or attacking animals.
- BATON ONLY - Arresting a person where its use, other than in a striking fashion is necessary and appropriate.
Explain what is use of the Baton
Any attempted or actual strike or direct threat to any person, including when a baton is deployed in a defensive technique. It does not include merely drawing the baton from its holder.
Explain what is use of OC Spray
- Actually spraying a suspect or spraying in their direction.
- Directing a cannister at a suspect but not actually spraying
- Spraying a dog or other animal.
What are the 4 locks
- Straight arm lock.
- Wrist lock

Rear should be layered, if not speed cuff.

Point safe Check safe remove magazine tilt, cock look chamber, mag well breach face. feel chamber, mag well, breach face. weapon clear scan and re holster
Admin unload happens before end of shift procedure and ensure you collect the round when ejected.
ECD start of shift procedure
3 C’s - Cartridges, Condition, Charge
using the issued box as a safe area, point safe. State name and pd number, no cartridges present and arcing test.
check for bio kit in box, correct cartridges are loaded and no errors.
