What are the predilection sites for osteosarcoma?
Proximal humerus
Distal radius
Distal femur
Proximal and distal tibia
What three features are noted on radiography of an osteosarcoma?
Cortical destruction
Loss of trabecular pattern
Sunburst- tumour bone extends into soft tissues
What tests are required for staging and diagnosis of osteosarcoma?
3 view chest radiography
+/- CT MRI
Jamshidi/FNA
Post amputation histopath
What are the features of metastasis of osteosarcoma?
Pulmonary metastasis are soft tissue opacity, there are occult metastasis in 95% cases
How is osteosarcoma treated?
Forequarter amputation
Coxofemoral disarticulation
Carboplatin +/- doxorubicin
What is the MST for osteosarcoma?
3-4 months after amputation
1 year with amputation and chemo
What is the follow up for osteosarcoma patients?
3 monthly clinical exam and chest radiographs
Death is usually due to metastasis, metastasectomy can be considered
