What is osteomalacia?
A
Osteomalacia is when the bone matrix is normal but there is decreased mineral content.
Causes rickets in children, osteomalacia in adults

What causes osteomalacia?
A
There is decreased bone mineral density which may be due to:
Vitamin D deficiency
Renal failure
Drugs- e.g. antiepileptics
Vitamin D resistance with genetic mutations

What does osteomalacia cause?
A
Pathological fractures
Bone pain
Muscle tenderness
Proximal myopathy
(causes rickets in children)

What is the treatment for osteomalacia?
A
Due to calcium/vitamin D deficiency so replace this
