Osteology Flashcards
Clavicle: Location and purpose
Horizontally oriented at upper thorax, subcutaneous
Acts as strut to attach upper limb to chest wall
What does the clavicle participate with in terms of joints and articulation?
Medially participates in sternoclavicular joint (only point of bony union between upper limb and trunk)
Laterally participates in acromioclavicular articulation
What surfaces (orientations) does the body of the scapula have?
Dorsal and Costal/Ventral
What are the borders of the scapula?
Vertebral
Axillary
Superior (has a scapular notch)
What are the angles of the scapula?
Superior, inferior, and lateral angles (lateral presents the glenoid fossa)
How long does the spine of the scapula extend to and where does it end?
Extends from the vertebral border to the point of the shoulder
Ends at acromion process
What are the fossae of the scapula?
Supraspinous
Infraspinous
Subscapular
What is the coracoid process?
Projects from the superior border between the scapular notch and the glenoid fossa
What are the parts of the humerus?
Head Greater and lesser tubercles Anatomical Neck vs Surgical Neck Shaft (diaphysis) Deltoid tuberosity Radial Sulcus Lateral and Medial Epicondyles
What do the lateral and medial epicondyles of the humerus contain?
Radial, coronoid and olecranon fossae
Capitulum
Trochlea
What are the parts of the proximal end of the radius?
Head
Neck
Radial Tuberosity
What are the parts of the proximal end of the ulna?
Olecranon process
Trochlear Notch
Coronoid Process
Ulnar Tuberosity
