Osmosis Practical Flashcards
1
Q
Process:
A
- Cut up a potato (or any other object) into Identical cylinders and measure their initial mass
- Fill up some beakers with different sugar solutions; one being pure water and others being of different concentrations of sugar solution.
- Place one potato cylinder into each beaker of solution and wait for 24 hours.
- Then, Take the cylinders out, pat them dry with a paper towel, and weigh their masses again
If the Potato cylinder has taken in water the mass will increase
If the Potato cylinder has released water the mass will decreased

- If the cylinders were taken in water then the mass would increase (low concentration in potato)
If the cylinders release water, then the mass would decrease (high concentration in potato) - Then you can calculate the percentage change in the mass.
