Diffusion Flashcards
What is Diffusion
Diffusion is the net movement of particles from an area of high concentration to an area of low concentration
What states does diffusion normally happen in
Gases
In solutions (Aqueous)
What are three factors that affect the rate of diffusion?
Cocncentraion Gradient
Temperature
Surface area
Concentration Gradient:
The higher the concentration gradient, The greater diffusion will be.
This is because the net movement on one side is greater than the other.
Temperature:
The higher the temperature the greater the rate of diffusion because the particles gain more energy which allows them to move fast
Surface area:
The greater the surface are, the greater the rate of diffusion
this is because more particles will able to move at the same time.
Does it require a lot of energy?
No
