Q

Hypertonic solution plant cells

A

loss of water means cell loses mass and shrivels and becomes flaccid
Plasmolyse if water loss continues

Q

Hypotonic solution plant cells

A

The cell gains water and mass and swells up. The vacuole fills with water water and along with the cytoplasm which bushes against the cells wall.

Q

Isotonic solution plant cells

A

cell looks normal as water moved into and out of cell in equal amounts

cell neither gains or loses mass and so stays the same shape

Q

Why is turgor important

A

If a plant loses too much water from its cells so that they become flaccid, this means the plant will wilt. The leaves droop and collapse.

Q

Is the droop good?

A

protective measure from the plant

drooping leaves will cut down water loss by reducing exposed surface area of leaves and closing stomata.
