What is Osmosis?

A

Osmosis is the net movement of water molecules from an area of high water potential to an area of low water potential across a partially permeable membrane

What does a selectively permeable membrane allow?

A

A selectively permeable membrane will allow some substances to pass through but not others

Why is the cell membrane selectively permeable?

A

So it can control what enters and leaves the cell
However certain treatments damage the cell membrane, and make it fully permeable (high temps)
