Q

What is a dynamic equilibrium?

A

Where there is no net movement of water as the water potential on either side of the mem is equal

Q

Diff water potential of external solution compared to cell solution (animal red blood cell)

A

Higher outside = water moves in = cell swells& bursts, haemoglobin is released
Equal = no change
Lower outside = water leaves cell = cell shrinks, haemoglobin more concentrated, so is darker, shrivelled

Q

Potential of external to cell = plant cell

A
  1. Higher outside = moves in, swells, turgid
    Protoplast pushed against cell wall
  2. Equal is incipient plasmolysis. Protoplast begins to pull away from cell wall
  3. Lower outside = leaves cell = shrinks, plasmolysed. Protoplast completely pulled away from cell wall
