What’s does professional behaviour look like?
- Introduce self and gain patient names in order to build rapport
- Get consent to gain patient medical history
- Show empathy
- Paraphrasing to check accuracy
What does the S in sample stand for and how is it practiced
Signs and symptoms including chief complaint.
This obviously involves asking about why the ambulance has been called (chief complaint)
But also checking there is nothing else wrong
What does the A in sample stand for and how is it practiced
Allergies
Checking for any know allergies but also ask if the family has a past of any allergies
What does the M in sample stand for and how is it practiced
Medication
Involves asking if they are on any medication
Have they taken the medication as directed
Prescription or over the counter
What does the P in sample stand for and how is it practiced
Past medical history
Involves asking about past medical events
Like surgery’s
What does the E in sample stand for and how is it practiced
Events leading up to the ambulance call
Paraphrasing
What’s does the 1st part of social history include asking about?
Circumstances of living
Do they live alone or with family
What’s does the 2nd part of social history include asking about?
Support network
Are they able to summon help?
What’s does the 3rd part of social history include asking about?
Smoking or alcohol use
If so how much and how often
What’s does the 4th part of social history include asking about?
Diet and fluid intake
How much how often and what of
What’s does the 5th part of social history include asking about?
General health
Hygiene and toileting as well as mood and sleeping
