orthopaedic tests Flashcards
FADDIR test
used to test: groin/anterior hip pain
- Passive flexion to 90
- End range adduction
Internal rotation of the hip with overpressure
flexion and internal rotation test/impingement sign
used to test: groin/anterior hip pain
- Passive flexion to 90
End range internal rotation of hip with overpressure
Trendelenburg test
used to test: labral tear, OA, lateral hip pain/gluteal tendinopathy
- Contact both iliac crests
- When patient to lift one foot up like they’re going to take a step
Stand on one leg up to 30 seconds
FABER/patrick’s test
tests for: hip joint pathology (labral tear/OA)
- Patient supine
- Frog leg position
- Extension, abduction, external rotation
Fix the ASIS on the other side
- Extension, abduction, external rotation
adductor squeeze test
tests for: pubic pain/adductor related pain(osteitis pubis)
- Patient supine
- Hips at 0,45,90 degrees
- Patient squeeze knees together against your closed fists (slowly building up force)
Each contraction should last for 5 seconds
anterior draw test for knee
tests for: ACL laxity
- Foot on table
- Stabilise tibia by sitting on foot
Grasp posterior tibia
lachman test
tests for: ACL laxity
knee under patient’s knee
hand over femur and hand under tibia
posterior draw test
tests for: PCL laxity
- Stabilise tibia by siting on foot
- Place hands on both sides of tibial tuberosity
Apply force down
Valgus stress test
tests the medial collateral lig
- Perform at 0 degrees (important if someone has lax knees or go into small amount of hyperextension
If positive, move to 25 degrees of flexion (only MCL providing support)
Varus stress test
tests the lateral collateral lig
- Perform at 0 degrees (important if someone has lax knees or go into small amount of hyperextension
If positive, move to 25 degrees of flexion (only MCL providing support)
should be more laxity in later side
Anterior draw test for ankle
tests the ATFL and or CFL injury
- Hand over calcaneus medially
- Hand over tibia and fibular
Pull calcaneal on joint line
squeeze test
tests for syndesmosis injury
Thompson test
tests for Achilles tendon rupture
squeeze gastrocnemius
