ORTHOGRAPHIC PROJECTION Flashcards
Is a drawing method that allows someone to represent a threedimensional object on two-dimensions .
Every feature or element which is parallel to the picture plane remains true in size, shape, and configuration.
ORTHOGRAPHIC
PROJECTIONS
….. are a collection of 2-D drawings that work together to give an accurate overall representation of an object.

GLASS BOX APPROACH
approach
….. on an engineering drawing signify more than just the object’s geometry, and it is important that the appropriate type is used.
Lines
For most engineering drawings, you will require two thicknesses’, a thick and thin line. The general recommendation is that thick lines are twice as light.

LINE THICKNESS
- A thick, continuous line is used for visible
edges and outlines. - A thin line is used for hatching, leader lines, short centre lines, dimensions and projections.

styles
Line Styles
- Thin chain lines are a standard feature on engineering drawings that indicate centre lines. Centre lines identify the centre of a circle, cylindrical parts, or a line of symmetry.
- Dashed lines are used to show crucial hidden details, for example, wall
thickness and holes.
PRECEDENCE OF LINES
- Visible lines take priority over all
other lines
0.6 mm - Hidden lines and cutting plane lines
take priority over center lines
0.3 mm - Center lines have lowest priority
0.1 mm
A …… drawing should provide all the information necessary for a finished product or part to be manufactured.
dimensioned
- Dimensions are always drawn using ….. lines.
continuous thin
- Two projection lines indicate where the dimension starts and finishes. Projection lines do not touch the object and are drawn perpendicular to the element you are dimensioning.
- All dimensions less than one should have a leading zero. i.e., .35 should be written as 0.35

Orthographic drawings can illustrate the depth
of objects by:
- overlapping feature
- by using line weight
- and shading
ORTHOGRAPHIC IN ARCHITECTURAL DRAWINGS
»Orthographic drawings include elevations,
plans, and sections, which are drawn in such a
way that the view frame (also known as a
picture plane) is parallel to the object.
