- Check appliance matches prescription
- Check for sharp edges
- Check integrity of wire work
- Put in & check for blanching/trauma
- Check posterior retention
- Check anterior retention
- Activate appliance
- Demonstrate putting in & out… get patient to practise
- Book review appt 4-6 weeks

- Initially feel big & bulky
- Mild discomfort (indicates working)
- Impinge on speech (practise reading aloud)
- Excessive salivation (24hrs)
- Wear 24/7 (including mealtimes)
- Clean after every meal
- Non-compliance increases treatment time
- Avoid hard & sticky foods
- Remove & store for contact/active sports
- Give emergency contact number
