Sialocoele Diagnosis
Clinical signs
Cytology
- Stain for mucin (PAS stain)
- Small numbers neutrophils, macrophages, lymphocytes and plasma cells and RBC on proteinaceous background
Appearance
- Viscous
- Honey coloured
Imaging
- Sialogram
- Contrast CT
Sialocoele Treatment
Sialoadenectomy or Conservative management
Incision or drainage not recommended as high rate of recurrence
Oropharyngeal Stick Injury
Penetrating injury to the oral cavity
Outline how to investigate Oropharyngeal Stick Injury
C/S
Thorough oropharyngeal exam under sedation of general anaesthesia
Radiography of cervical area and thorax
- Presence of free gas within cervical tissue planes
- Pneumothorax
Surgical exploration
Chronic presentation of Oropharyngeal stick injury
Firm enlarging ventral cervical swelling
May have a draining sinus tract
+/- Pyrexia
Cleft Palate Aetiology
Congenital lip and palate defect in cats and dogs
Acquired due to trauma (fall from height cats)
Congenital cleft palate what should I do
May require euthanasia
Repair should be done at 3-4mths of age and can be very challenging
