Origins Of The Universe Flashcards
What is the scientific response to the origins of the universe?
The Big Bang theory
What is the Christian response to the origins of the universe?
Genesis 1
How do Christians get their information?
Word of mouth and the bible
Why are Christian sources unreliable?
Because the bible is outdated and word of mouth may be unreliable as people may have changed the story.
How do scientists get their information?
Scientific method:
Observe
Hypothesise
Experiment
Verify
Why is the scientist method unreliable?
Theories have been disproven before (such as flat earth). The bible is consistent in contrast to it.
Why do people prefer the Christian response?
The bible is simple and does not require any research into understanding it better.
Why do people prefer the scientific response?
The scientific response is being constantly updated therefore being more reliable
What three things support the Big Bang theory?
Abundance of elements, red light shift and cosmic background radiation
What is an abundance of elements?
The large amount of hydrogen in the universe is exactly the suspected amount which would have caused the Big Bang
What is red light shift?
Red light is the measurement of distance between galaxies and shows us that galaxies are moving apart, suggesting the universe is expanding. This means the universe is expanding from a contained point from some point in the universe’s past (the Big Bang)
What is cosmic background radiation?
It is the left behind energy suspected to be from the Big Bang. It acts like the static on the tv as it is always there even if we don’t see it
What is the Big Bang?
The Big Bang is the scientific theory for the universe’s creation. It suggests that in the beginning a single point of density known as a singularity expanded until it became the universe we know. It happened 13.7 billion years ago.
What four things came into existence because of the Big Bang?
Matter, space, time and energy
What is genesis one?
Genesis one is the Christian response to the creation of the universe which tells us that the universe was created by god in six days.
