origins of psyxhology evaluation Flashcards
Wundt’s method is scientific
-he recorded introspections within a controlled lab environment
- he standardized his procedures so that every participant received the same information and was tested in the same way
- scientific credibility
not all aspects are scientific
wundt relied on ppts self reporting their mental processes.
data is subjective and ppts might not want to reveal some feelings
ppts may not have the same thoughts every time, so establishing general laws is not possible.
does not meet scientific criteria
not all approaches use objective methods
psychodynamic - makes use of case study - based on interview techniques that are open to bias and no attempt is made to gather a representative sample of the population.
(pros and cons of case studies)
humanistic - anti-scientific and doesn’t attempt to formulate general laws. it is only concerned with unique subjective experience
(idiographic approach)
