What is the definition of science?
Science is a means of acquiring though systematic and objective investigation. The aim is to discover general laws.
What is the definition of introspection?
Introspection is the first experimental scientific attempt to study the mind, by breaking up conscious awareness into basic structure and thoughts/ images/ sensations.
What is the definition of psychology?
Psychology is the scientific study of the human mind and its function, especially those functions affecting behaviour in a given context.
What is Wilhelm Wundt known as?
The father of psychology
When and where did wilhem wundt set up his psychology lab?
Wundt set up his first psychology laboratory in Leipzig Germany, in 1879.
What is Wundt’s main objective?
The objective was to document and describe the nature of human consciousness - this involved people to ‘look into themselves’/ their own mental and emotional states, in order to gain knowledge about themselves.
What did he ask the participants to do in particular?
He asked the participants to focus on an everyday object and to notice their sensations, feelings and images!
What are experiences analysed in terms of?
Experiences are analysed in terms of its component parts (like sensations, etc).
