origins of psychology Flashcards
what is psychology?

developed introspection
what is introspection?
the examination or observation of one’s own mental and emotional processes
how does introspection work?
pots are given a stimulus and they have to provide a description of what their inner processes are whilst listening to the sound or looking at the image + wundt compared responses
what are the 3 major features needed for a subject to be considered a science
objectivity
replicability
empirical methods
what is objectivity
basing findings on fact rather than opinion
what is replicability
the ability to repeat a study and test the findings
empirical methods
methods psychologists use where behaviours can be observed and measured
why isn’t introspection considered scientific
it was subjective + produced data that wasn’t replicable + wasn’t measurable and isn’t based on empirical methods
