The emergence of psychology as a science

A

Empiricism = knowledge derived from sensory experience

  • Empiricists believe knowledge from observation + experience alone
  • all behaviour being caused (determinism)

Scientific Method = use of investigative methods

  • Objective - don’t let preconceived ideas influence data
  • Systematic - experiments are carried out orderly
  • Replicable - can be repeated by others

-development of theories, constant testing, + refining creates a solid observation
