- mental processes can be observed systematically (through introspection)

Empiricism = knowledge derived from sensory experience
- Empiricists believe knowledge from observation + experience alone
- all behaviour being caused (determinism)
Scientific Method = use of investigative methods
- Objective - don’t let preconceived ideas influence data
- Systematic - experiments are carried out orderly
- Replicable - can be repeated by others
-development of theories, constant testing, + refining creates a solid observation
