O: spinous process of T6-T12 and spinous process of lumbar and sacral vertebrae by way of thoracolumbar fascia, ribs 9-12, iliac crest
I: floor of intertubercular groove
Levator scapulae
O: posterior tubercles of the transverse process of C1-C4
I: medial border of scapula superior to root of spine
Rhomboid Major
O: spinous process of T2-T5
I: medial border of scapula from level of spine to inferior angle
Rhomboid Minor
O: Ligamentum nuchae, spinous process of C7 and T1
I: root of scapular spine
Serratus posterior superior
O: inferior part of ligamentum nuchae and spinous process of C7 and T1-T3
I: ribs 2-5
Serratus posterior inferior
O: spinous process of T11, T12 and L1,L2 via thoracolumbar fascia
I: inferior 3 or 4 ribs (8-12)
Splenius capitis
O: ligamentum nuchae at C3-C7 and spinous process of C7-T4
I: mastoid process and occipital bone inferior to the lateral 1/3 of the superior nuchal line
Splenius cervicis
O: spinous process of T3-T6
I: transverse process of C1-C3
Iliocostalis lumborum
O: broad tendon attached inferiorly to the posterior part of iliac crest, posterior sacrum, supraspinous ligaments, sacrotuberous and sacroiliac ligamenous, spinous process of T12, L1-L5
I: inferior 6 ribs and transverse process of all lumbar vertebrae
Iliocostalis thoracis
O: Ribs 12-7
I: upper 6 ribs and transverse process of C7
Iliocostalis cervicis
O: ribs 3-6
I: posterior tubercles of transverse process of C4-C6
Longissimus thoracis
O: lumbar region blended with iliocostalis lumborum, posterior surfaces of transverse and accessory processes of L1-L5 vertebrae and anterior layer of thoracolumbar fascia
I: transverse process of all thoracic vertebrae and ribs 2-12 between tubercles and angles
