Course Description
This course describes the practice of Analytical Chemistry as an information science emphasizing statistics, quality assurance, and introductory chemometrics which will focus on data analysis using methods employed in core data analytic disciplines such as multivariate statistics and applied mathematics.
Course Outcome
CO1: develop a strong foundation on the basic principles of Chemistry
CO2: develop interest in the field of Chemistry and its relevance to technology and modern society
CO3: gain mastery on the fundamental concepts of chemistry needed in their higher chemistry courses and chemistry-based courses
CO4: enhance skills in deductive reasoning, critical thinking and problem solving thru applying the basic chemical principles to certain word problems and exercises
CO5: make scientific observations, gather pertinent data and provide reasonable explanation or rationale for certain phenomena after critical evaluation and analysis
Program Educational Objectives:
Graduates of BS Chemistry are expected to be:
- Registered chemists holding executive positions in diverse career paths equipped with technical and scientific expertise for quality assurance, research and development;
- Chemistry practitioners who discover, invent, innovate and/or adapt new approaches and technologies in dealing with chemistry-related problems for potential commercialization;
- Morally Upright and holistic professionals who possess interpersonal expertise and value work, community, and environmental preservation.
Program Outcomes:
a. demonstrate broad and coherent knowledge and understanding in inorganic, organic, physical, biological and analytical chemistry;
b. identify and solve problems involving chemistry using current disciplinary and interdisciplinary principles;
c. utilize standard laboratory protocol, classical techniques and modern instrumentation for data gathering and other scientific applications;
d. interpret relevant scientific data and make judgments that include reflection on relevant scientific and ethical issues;
e. discuss and utilize the latest developments in the specific field of practice;
f. develop scientific outputs relevant to the society;
g. identify chemistry-related business opportunities and prepare business plans for possible entrepreneurial applications;
h. work effectively and independently in multi-disciplinary and multi-cultural teams;
i. act in recognition of professional, social, and ethical responsibility;
j. use effective written and verbal communication; and
k. preserve and promote “Filipino historical and cultural heritage” and sustainable development.
