Why is orientation important?
It is important to communicate what is expected of the new employees.
Orientation should be developed with the following in mind.
Provide an agenda
Review of policies and procedures
Hold orientation on their first day
What is induction and orientation?
New employees need to be acclimated into the organisation. Part of being successful in the job is knowing ‘how things are done around here.’
It should be designed to help reduce anxiety. It is also important to communicate what is expected of the new employee.

Welcome to company preferably by a senior manager
Tour of facilities
Intro to co workers
Completion of paperwork
Review of employee handbook/policies/procedures
Review job responsibilities

Why is training important?
Without an effective training and development program organisations can quickly fall behind in acquiring the skill sets and knowledge required for a competitive workforce.
Only by anticipating knowledge, skills and abilities required to compete successfully in the future can organisations meet these challenges.
Training improves individual performance which ultimately improves corporate performance.
How do you know if an employee needs training?
Conduct a needs analysis. This identifies performance deficiencies or gaps between actual performance and the desired performance of individuals.
The task assessment. It addresses the specific requirements of the position. It determines what needs to be done in the job and qualifications required to accomplish the task.
The employee assessment. This identifies the gap between skills of employee and the actual skills needed to perform the job.
