Person/ individual and Client
- Unique traits, values, beliefs and perceptions.
- clients can mean a person, family, group, community, society, or humanity
Environment
- greatly impacts health and is the surroundings and atmosphere in when the clients live-includes circumstances
Nurses Education
- transforms students into professional nurses
Teachers and teaching
- creative positive learning climate
- facilitate, coach, support, mentor
Learners and learning
- learning is critical and lifelong
- meaningful synthesis (internalized and shared with others)
- an approach/ framework that guides the nurses behaviours
- acknowledges that content plays a large role
- ensures all interactions are purposeful and useful to the client.
Conceptual Framework
Concept- mental formation of an object or an event; can be concrete (readily observable) or abstract (nonobservable)
Conceptual framework- a group of related concepts- which provides an overall view of the relationship between concepts
Relational Nursing Practice Framework
- a “picture” of what Nursing is
- contains concepts: content, reflection, reflexivity
Factors
Factors that impact the nurse-client partnership:
- environment, characteristics of the partnership, professional expectations of the nurse, knowledge and skill of the nurse, knowledge and beliefs of the client, health status of client.
Reflection and Reflexivity
Reflection- constantly critically examining the partnership and themselves (what can I do differently)
Reflexivity- based on their reflection, the nurse must make changes to improve the partnership
Self Reflection in nursing
- one of the most important skills
- nurses must be aware that they have “context” too, which impacts partnership
- “why do I feel the way I do?”
- “what needs to change?”
Nurses and Nursing
- a professional discipline
- primary role is to develop relational partnerships with clients to reach optimal health and well-being
- this is achieved by developing a nurse-client partnership (therapeutic relationship)
