Organs, structures, and sphincters Flashcards
What are the 5 regions of the stomach?
cardia, fundus, body, antrum, and plylorus
What is the max volume of the stomach?
4L
Name all organs involved in digestion
Mouth, esophagus, Stomach, small intestine, large intestine, rectum, anus, liver, gallbladder, pancreas
What is the GI tract?
The gastrointestinal tract refers to the passageway of the digestive system that goes from the mouth to the anus
What is the difference between Digestive and Excretory system?
Break down food(bowel movement) vs Eliminate waste and excess compound(urinate)
what does liver do in digestion?
Contain bile which break down fats
what does gallbladder do in digestion
Stores and concentrates bile
what does pancreas do in digestion
Creates digestive enzymes, which are secreted into the small intestine
what are 3 sections of small intestine
duodenum, jejunum, andileum
what is Enterocytes?
digestive cell lines the small intestine
what are the 4 section of the large intestine
cecum, colon,rectum, and anus
what are the 6 important sphincters?
Upper esophageal sphincter, Lower esophageal sphincter, Pyloric sphincter, Sphincter of Oddi, Ileocecal sphincter,Anal sphincter
what and where is Upper esophageal sphincter?
Start of esophagus, Stops food from entering respiratory system
what and where is lower esophageal sphincter?
bottom of the esophagus, Allows food to enter the stomach, Prevents stomach acid from entering the esophagus
what and where is pyloric sphincter
Between the stomach and duodenum, Allows partially digested food to pass into the small intestine
