The style in which the writer chooses to present their ideas.
Cause and Effect
The writer makes a connection between action and consequence to show the relationship between the two points.
Chronological sequencing
The writer presents their information in the order in which it occurred.
eg history, timelines
Classification
The writer arranges groups of ideas into categories.
eg They may categorize hurricanes, storms, and earthquakes as natural disasters.
Compare and Contrast
The writer shows how two ideas may be similar or opposite to each other.
Lists
The writer may provide a series of details, facts, or images.
Problem and Solution
The writer presents a problem, gives details about the problem, and purposes a solution to the problem.
Reasoning
The writer clearly outlines justifications and explanations either to explain why a problem is occurring or why his proposed solution will work.
Refutation
The writer presents a popular argument and shows the weakness in that argument.
Order of importance
The writer shows their information in order from their most important point to their least important point.
