Organizational Needs and Systems Design 5 Flashcards
Segregation of Duties Control
1) User departments participate in systems design
2) Both users and information systems personnel test new systems
3) Management, users and information systems personnel approve new systems before they are placed into operation
Segregation of IT duties does not allow
the information systems department to authorize transactions
Other valid segregation of IT controls segregate functions between
1) information systems departments and user departments
2) do not allow information systems departments to initiate and authorize transactions
3) segregate programming, operations and the library function within the information systems department
All master and transaction file conversions
should be controlled to prevent unauthorized changes and to verify the accuracy of the results.
File conversions are generally overseen by
Information systems personnel
Two distinct functions of Information systems department
systems development
data processing
Batch vs Online processing and examples
Online processes transactions as they occur (airline reservation)
Batch processes transactions in batches. (writing checks to every vendor at the end of the night)
Three types of processing
1) Centralized
2) Decentralized
3) Distributed
Project scope analysis
is performed during the planning phase of systems design.
