Organizational Needs and Systems Design 3 Flashcards
Database administration and Data Preparation fall under which catagories
Database administration = systems development
data preparation = data processing.
Systems development and data processing
should be separate functions reporting to a single manager.
Functions under system development include
1) systems analysis
2) systems programming
3) applications programming
4) and database administration.
Functions under data processing include
1) data preparation
2) operations
3) data library
4) and data control.
Three main types of system documentation are used by auditors and analysts.
1) Data Flow Diagrams
2) System Flowcharts
3) Entity Relationship Diagrams
Data Flow Diagrams (DFDs)
illustrate the system components and functions
data flows among the components
and sources, destinations and storage of the data;
System Flowcharts that illustrate
informational processes (such as logic flows, inputs, outputs, data storage)
and operational processes (such as physical flows), and
Entity Relationship Diagrams
illustrate the systems key entities and the relationships among those entities
The Control Group
acts as the liaison between end-users and the processing center
Functions of the control group
1) records input data in a control log
2) follows the progress of processing
3) distributes output
4) and ensures compliance with control totals.
