Organization of the Nervous System Flashcards
What is the sensory function of the nervous system?
Detecting stimuli (internal or external)
What is the integration function of the nervous system?
Processing
Decision Making
What is the motor function of the nervous system?
Contractions
Gland Secretion
What are the three functional systems of the nervous system?
Sensory (afferent)
Integrative (interneuron)
Motor (efferent)
What are 4 motor signals
Somatic
Autonomic
What are the three types of autonomic signals?
Sympathetic
Parasympathetic
Enteric
What does the somatic signal do?
Voluntary control
ex) moving your skeletal muscle
What do the autonomic signals do?
These are automatic movements or unvoluntary
What does the sympathetic signal do?
fight or flight response
What does the parasympathetic signal do?
Resting functions
Ex) Reproductive responses
What does the enteric signal do?
Specifically the digestive system
What does the central nervous system consist of?
Brain and spinal cord.
Performs integration
What does the peripheral nervous system consist of?
Ganglion and nerves
What two kinds of systems for the peripheral nervous system consist of?
Sensory system
Motor system
What are the two cells types in the nervous tissue?
Neruons
Neuroglia
