Organisms Flashcards
what does MRS C GREN stand for?
Movement, Respiration, Sensitivity, Control, Growth, Reproduction, Excretion, Nutrition.
Movement?
Oranisms move towards things like water and food, and away from things like predators and poisons.
Respiration?
Oranisms release energy from their food by a process called respiration.
Sensitivity?
Found in livings that when any thing which could harm them they get active and sensitive and also response to that.
Control?
Internal conditions include temperature temperature and water content.
Growth?
Must be able to grow and develop into their adult form.
Reproduction?
Organisms have to produce offspring in order for their spies to survive.
Excretion?
Waste products such as carbon dioxide and urine haver to be removed.
Nutrition?
Living organisms need nutrients to provide them with energy and the raw materials for growth and repair. (fats, carbs, vitamins, minerals, proteins…)
What are living organisms made up of?
Cells.
What do cells contain?
Organelles
What are eukaryotic cells?
Complex, and include all animal and plant cells.
What are prokaryotic cells?
Smaller and simpler. (E.g - bateria)
Nucleus?
An organelle which contains the genetic material that controls the cell’s activities. It is surrounded by its own membrane.
Cell membrane?
This membrane forms the outer surface of the cell and controls the substances that go in and out.
Cytoplasm?
A gel-like substance where most of the cell’s chemical reactions happen. It contains enzymes which control these reactions.
Mitochondria?
Small organelles where most of the reactions for aerobic respiration take place. Respiration transfers energy thatthe cell needs to work.
Ribosomes?
Small organelles where proteins are made in the cells.
Chloroplasts?
Photosynthesis, which makes food for the plant happens here.
What does chloroplasts contain?
Chlorophyll, which is used for photsynthesis and is a green substance.
Vacuole?
A large organelle that contains cell sap. It helps to support the cell.
Difference between plant and animal cells?
Plant cells have the same as animal cells but have additional organelles: Cell wall, Vacuole, Chloroplasts.
Cell wall?
A rigid structure made of cellulose, which surrounds the cell membrane. It supports the cell and strengthens it.
