What is an organisation chart?
an organisation chart shows the internal organisation of a business. it is hierarchical- there are levels that get wider towards the bottom- it looks triangular
What is a span of control?
The number of people you are directly in charge of
What is the chain of command?
Who is in charge of who
What are subordinates?
The people you are in charge of
Delegation
an organisation chart ensures work is delegated (spread out)
What is delayering?
Delayering is removing layers an organisation structure
What are redundancies?
Making a persons job obsolete (no longer needed) resulting in them not having a job anymore. this can be due to delayering
GIve 2 advantages of delayering
- the business saves money because there are less wages to pay
- communication can be better because there are less layers of people for information to go through
GIve two disadvantages of delayering
- it can increase the workload for people (e.g. if they have more subordinates to manage)
- it can be unethical to make people redundant for no reason so they lose their job
