Q

What is the Central Nervous System (CNS)?

A
  1. Consists of the brain and spinal cord
  2. Brain- decision making centre
  3. Spinal Cord- passes signals between the brain and the rest of the body

Q

What is the Autonomic Nervous System (ANS)?

A
  1. Controls the things we do without having to think about it
  2. Sends signals to and from organs
  3. Blinking, breathing etc

Q

What happens if a part of your Nervous System is damaged?

A
  1. Different areas of damage can cause different symptoms
  2. Spinal cord damage- paralysis, slower reactions
  3. ANS damage- struggle doing automatic things

Q

What are the practical applications of the nervous system?

A
  1. Understanding of the system led to drug treatments
  2. Also led to better treatment options

Q

What is a consequence of this theory?

A
  1. The nervous system does not work on its own
  2. It works with other systems eg digestive
