Organisation & Digestive System Flashcards
Enzyme
Biological catalyst that speed up reactions without getting used up.
Which gland produces amylase?
Salivary gland
Which gland produces lipase?
Pancreas
Which organs in the body produce amylase?
Salivary glands, Pancreas, Small Intestine
How are proteins broken down?
Broken down by a group of enzymes called proteases into individual monomers called amino acids.
Which two are examples of protease enzymes?
Pepsin & Trypsin
Which organs in the body produce protease enzymes?
Stomach, Pancreas & Small Intestine
How are lipids broken down?
Lipids are broken down by lipase enzymes, and converted into glycerol and fatty acids.
Why is bile not an enzyme?
Bile is a yellow-greenish liquid released from the gall bladder that helps with lipid digestion.
How does bile help with the digestion of lipids?
It emulsifies the lipids which increases the surface area for lipase enzymes to break down on.
Which organs in the body produce lipase enzymes?
Small intestine & Pancreas
Three organs
Large and small intestines, Oesophagus and Stomach.
Where is the Bile produces?
Liver
What do WBC do?
Protects the body from disease and infections.
Three chemical substances transported by the Plasma
Amino acids, Oxygen & Carbon dioxide
